Mount Pleasant officials are moving closer to naming a new city manager and will hold public interviews for the five finalists in June.
The interviews are scheduled for June 24 and were approved at Tuesday’s Mount Pleasant City Commission meeting. The board of commissioners also approved the use of two other dates, June 23 and 25, to hold a public reception for the finalists and an open meeting to decide which of the five candidates will be appointed to the position.
Out of the five finalists, Interim City Manager Nancy Ridley is the only candidate that has been named publicly. All of the other candidates, Ridley said, have requested that the city hold off from revealing their names until background checks and other references could be consulted. Ridley added that the candidates have the right to remain anonymous under state law.
Central Michigan Life made a formal request Tuesday for the names and application materials of the unnamed finalists through the Freedom of Information Act.
Ridley said the candidates will be named publicly as soon as they accept requests to be interviewed for the position.
The three meetings are scheduled to take place at Mount Pleasant city hall. Times and dates are listed below:
June 23, 5-6:30 p.m. – Public reception for finalists
June 24, 9 a.m. – Public interviews with finalists
June 25, 5 p.m. – Public meeting to decide newly appointed city manager
