Racial comments left by Mid-Michigan executive triggers uproar within Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe

The Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe released a transcription of a racially charged voicemail message on Wednesday. The tribal leaders said the message was left on tribal engineer Donald Seal’s phone by CFO Kirk Shewchuck of ACD.net, a Lansing-based telecommunications network.

The tribe said the voicemail message was delivered on May 6.

“We’ll see what happens,” Shewchuck is believed to have said on the message. “Those f***ing Indians. Let’s call them red man. You know what? F**k you! Let’s sic the Sioux Tribe on you. Let’s get a good ‘ol fashioned Indian war going!”

Tribal Chief Steve Pego called the comments “irresponsible,” and “disrespectful.”

Pego asked if “ACD.net CEO Kevin Schoen tolerates this type of racial and vulgar activities” in a press release issued by the tribe.

Meanwhile, the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi is planning a boycott of Shewchuck and the company.

“I would strongly consider contacting law enforcement,” said Homer A. Mandoka, the chair of the NHBP council. “I believe this to be slanderous.”

Mandoka also called the message a “motivated hate crime.”

Wow. Awfully one-sided. Doesn’t responsible journalism as least warrant a “no comment” from the other side? The comments are despicable, but this article is almost as bad.

      Jennifer,

Calls were made to both parties for further comment. Those phone calls have not been returned. We’ll be working in the morning to follow up on this story, as mentioned at the bottom of the post.

      Thanks for reading.

  2. I think some one made a mistake Kirk Shewchuck is a tribal member of the Chippewas. Have you looked into that? He is in my directory.

  3. Anonymous says:

Triggers uproar? Do you even check facts before publishing? Kirk shewchuck is a Chippewa native american. Did the tribe look into this prior to writing a press release? Looks like part of a recording not the full thing. Somebody got hoodwinked.

Why is ut when white folks do something racist . Other white people draw attention or focus on bull. Jennifer had the audacity to say well “what about the other side.” Shut up ! This article is reporting the FACTS
