Washington Square Apartments demolition to start Monday

Deconstruction crews at the site of the soon-to-be demolished Washington Square Apartments are preparing to start their work on Monday, June 9.

Demolition crew officials confirmed that the north building, which will taken down first, is slated for demolition on Monday.

“The goal is to be done by the end of the month,” the official said.

All four of the buildings are scheduled to be torn down before construction crews take over soon. Several large excavators, wheel loaders and other demolition equipment were on the scene of the project on Friday.

The entire area was fenced off from the rest of the on-campus location.  Steve Lawrence, associate vice president of Facilities Management, could not confirm the deconstruction project scheduled. Phone calls to Lawrence in relation to the projects were not immediately returned by press time.
