JRN scholar to speak at forum
"Character, Candidates and the Media" will be discussed today at an open forum featuring journalism educator John Merrill.
Merrill will discuss political campaign issues at 4 p.m. in Anspach 161 with Jim Wieghart, journalism adjunct professor; Ted Clayton, political science instructor; and Robert Noggle, philosophy and religion assistant professor.
"Dr. Merrill is the leading journalism educator and scholar. He's very well informed in the area of journalism," said Jiafei Yin, journalism professor.
Merrill is professor emeritus at the University of Missouri and Louisiana State University, said Yin.
He has taught in 85 countries and published and edited 33 books.
Yin said Merrill enjoys being with students.
"He's interested in visiting our campus and talking to students," she said.
Merrill's experience will be very beneficial to students, Yin said.
"He's very good at challenging and inspiring students," she said.
