Make a difference


The Central/Western Blood Drive once again is in full swing.

And the American Red Cross needs your blood more than ever, CMU.

The national humanitarian organization will serve students from noon to 5:45 p.m. today through Friday, and Monday-Friday of next week at various campus locations.

Even though Western students have donated more blood than Central students the past two years, beating a hated rival shouldn't be the only motivation for students over the next few days.

The picture is much larger than a competition.

Spokespeople for the CMU chapter of the Red Cross recently have said there is a massive shortage of donated blood.

According to a Jan. 12 Central Michigan Life Article, the average amount of negative blood types needed for care of hospital patients is a 72-hour supply. The current supply at the Red Cross, however, is what is classified as a 12- to 24-hour supply.

A minimum 48-hour difference is an alarming number.

But for just a little prick of a needle, students can help the cause.
