Sports Update: Field hockey loses 2-1 to Kent State

The field hockey team lost 2-1 to Kent State Friday at home.

The team didn’t get on the scoreboard until the last minute when senior Kelly Jordan scored her fifth goal of the season on a penalty corner.

“I think we had some good moments today and I really think we held with them,” said senior Melinda Curran. “We did fight hard for it but we needed to play hard for the whole game. I think the fact that we were able to score on a penalty corner at the end of the game was big for us. It gives us confidence going into our game tomorrow.”

Coach Cristy Freese admitted the team strayed away from its original game plan and that it hurt the team.

“We did some good things against Kent especially in the first half,” she said. “We did kind of get out of our game plan by letting them have too many penalty corners. I think that we needed to be a little more disciplined and have a little more composure.”

The Chippewas are 1-3 in Mid-American Conference play this season,

"It definitely was a tough loss today and we have had two back-to-back tough losses against two of the toughest teams in the MAC,” Freese said. “It’s good that we are mad about that and that is a good emotion to have because we don’t just want to sit around and just accept that.”

The team hosts Ohio at 1 p.m. Saturday.
