Sports update: Volleyball loses five-set match at Northern Illinois

The volleyball team lost its second Mid-American Conference game of the season Friday, losing at Northern Illinois 3-2.

The loss was the first for the Chippewas in a five-set match.

“They did a nice job of mixing things up and keeping our defense off balance,” said coach Erik Olson. “We looked a little sluggish. And we made poor decisions.”

Sophomore outside hitter Lauren Krupsky hit for a career high 25 kills in the losing effort. CMU had more kills and a better hitting percentage then the Huskies, but was edged out 15-12 in the fifth set.

Central struggled to keep NIU’s outside hitters Allison McGlaughin and Meagan Schoenrock from scoring as they combined for 43 of the teams 65 kills.

Freshman outside hitter Lindsey Dulude had a breakout game with 12 kills, two service aces and 10 digs.

The team travels on Saturday to Kalamazoo to take on the MAC West division leader Western Michigan.

“We only had one good outside hitter tonight,” Olson said. “We let one slip by and we just have to wake up tomorrow and get back on the same page.”
