Poor shooting hurts women's basketball in loss

The CMU women’s basketball team lost its third consecutive road game Saturday, losing 60-52 against Buffalo at Alumni Arena in Buffalo, N.Y.

CMU had a tough time putting the ball in the basket for the second straight game, shooting just 26.8 percent from the field and 14.3 percent from beyond the 3-point line.

“We had really good looks that didn’t go,” said coach Sue Guevara. “When your three-ball isn’t going, (we have to) take the short jumper.”

CMU (8-14, 5-5 MAC) started 1-for-10 shooting and allowed Buffalo to take an early 11-2 lead, a hole that the Chippewas could not overcome the entire game because of its inability to score.

The Bulls shot 50 percent in the first half and 41.5 percent for the game.

Senior forward Britni Houghton led CMU with 16 points and 10 rebounds while junior guard Shonda Long added 13 points and five rebounds.

Forward Kourtney Brown led all scorers with 19 points and a game-high 14 rebounds for Buffalo (6-17, 3-7 MAC).

CMU begins a four-game home stand at 7 p.m. Wednesday against league-leader Bowling Green in Rose Arena.

The Falcons defeated Ball State 80-76 today in Muncie, Ind.

“The best thing is that we’re going home,” Guevara said.
