The Central Michigan men's basketball team could be without one of its senior leaders Saturday against South Alabama.

Head coach Ernie Zeigler said Tuesday after CMU's 65-62 loss against Hawaii that senior guard Amir Rashid will have an MRI done Thursday to determine the extent of his injured knee. Rashid did not score Tuesday against the Rainbow Warriors, going 0-for-2 from the field, while playing six minutes off the bench.

"He's really hobbling right now," Zeigler said. "We tried to put him in there in the first half, but he’s a shell of himself with that knee."

Rashid missed the first five games last season after having knee surgery. No word yet on if the same knee is giving him troubles.

Freshman Derek Jackson started in his place Tuesday, scoring eight points on 3-for-12 shooting while adding four assists.

Rashid recorded 13 points, four rebounds and four assists in the Chippewas' 70-67 win Saturday against Cal State Fullerton, Rashid was quiet Sunday against Montana State, scoring just three points on 0-of-4 shooting in 34 minutes.

He averaged 5.2 points and 2.3 assists per game last season.
