Softball team earns first win, starting 3-2 in USF invitational


Junior pitcher Kara Dornbos threw a two hitter Friday to secure the Central Michigan softball team's first victory of the season beating South Dakota State 2-0.

CMU has gone 2-2 since then in Tampa, Fla. during the USF Under Armour invitational.

The Chippewas lost to Villanova 2-3 and Loyola Marymount 1-4 while beating St. Francis 3-2 and Hampton 5-1. Senior Molly Coldren hit her third home run of the season with a two-run homer against Hampton. She broke the single-season home run record last year with 14 and holds the CMU program record.

Sophomore Chelsea Sundberg earned the win against Hampton for her first win of the season, she is 1-3. She pitched seven innings allowing one run and struck out three batters.

In the Chippewas win against St. Francis sophomore Morgan Yuncker earned the win pitching a complete game allowing two runs on two hits.
