The Gold team beat the Maroon squad 18-12 Tuesday during the annual intrasquad wrestling meet at McGuirk Arena.

All the matches were won by decision.

The Gold team dominated early, winning five of the first six matches of the evening, taking a 15-3 lead. The Maroon team rallied late to make it 15-12 match, heading into the heavyweight matchup.

Senior heavyweight wrestler Jarod Trice won the final match of the meet, with a score of 9-3 after a last second takedown.

"This match put us in a great situation," Trice said. "It gets us back acclimated in the match and back to the grind. This will help us next week as we wrestle (Michigan)."

Central Michigan head coach Tom Borrelli downplayed the event's competition level.

"I don't think we really did a whole lot tonight," Borrelli said. "We just kind of wrestled each other, and we've been wrestling each other for months now. This match didn't show me what I hope to see this season. All it showed me was that we still have a lot of work to do before the season opener."

All matches were won by decision, and Borrelli said the team needs to improve offensively.

"We've got to work on getting more attempts and being on the offensive more," Borrelli said. "We've got to attack more. We need to score more points than we did tonight."

The Chippewas wrestle the Michigan Wolverines at 7 p.m. Tuesday at McGuirk Arena.

"I'm looking forward to us wrestling another team," Borrelli said. "All of our guys are excited to wrestle against Michigan next week"
