BRIEF: Most of campus without hot water, heat Tuesday

Facilities Management expedited the repair of a corroding steam line earlier today in response to the failure of a large condensate line.

“We were working on a plan to complete the repairs already,” said Director of Plant Engineering and Planning Linda Slater. “This just put those plans into immediate action.”

The pipeline helps provide several areas of campus with heating, hot water and steam, including Brooks, Dow, Pearce, Rose and Anspach Halls. However, classes are to remain open and meet as scheduled.

The Towers and the Merrill Quad residence halls, in addition to Rose Arena, the SAC, the indoor athletic facilities and the Events Center are also without hot water and steam.

The Merrill and Carey dining halls were both affected by the failure. According to campus dining officials, Aramark was prepared for these types of situations and all scheduled meal offerings are still available.

“We’re on track,” Slater said this afternoon. “It’s not done until it’s done, but everything is going according to plan.”
