US-127 closed due to slippery roads, almost 30 crashes

Highway US-127 was closed Friday afternoon, due to several car crashes resulting from slippery roads.

Motorists were asked to stay off both the northbound and southbound roads, said Isabella County Sheriff Leo Mioduszewski.

“We’ve had somewhere around 30 (car crashes) because of icy roads,” he said.

No deaths were reported by the afternoon, Mioduszewski said. One ambulance was called.

He estimated the roads would be closed for about four hours.

“It will last until we can clear it," Mioduszewski said. "We have a bunch of police officers talking to drivers and getting reports still."

He said he was unaware of any students involved in the car crashes.
