Chippewas finish perfect home season on senior's night

Thursday night marked the end of an era for women’s basketball.

The Chippewas defeated rival Western Michigan 84-75 in front of a jovial McGuirk Arena crowd on senior night in the regular season home finale.  The women went a perfect 11-0 at home in 2014.

“We got into the paint," said head coach, Sue Guevara after the victory.  "We got a little frustrated but when you bring (Taylor) Johnson off the bench and all of a sudden it opens up for you."

Johnson, a senior, finished her final game at McGuirk with 19 points and eight rebounds, diving into the seats in the second half to secure possession of the ball.

Senior guard, Niki DiGuilio broke the single season record in total 3-pointers made when she hit her 93rd of the season near the end of the first half.  She had 22 points and four rebounds in the victory.

Pointguard Jessica Green stole the show against the Broncos.  She was able to penetrate and cash in on easy layups.  She finished with 21 points.

"It was a good win," said Green.  "We wanted to put on a good show for our seniors and we wanted them all to get a chance to play in front of our fans for one last time and go out with a bang."

Junior Crystal Bradford had a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds.

CMU will play its final regular season game at Eastern Michigan on Saturday afternoon.
