Mount Pleasant school board examining year-round classes, later start times

The Mount Pleasant School District is in the early stages of potentially developing a number of task forces in an effort to better optimize the school year.

On March 17, Superintendent Mike Pung said he and his district's administrative team received the results of a survey sent out to students, staff and stakeholders within the school system.

Several questions on the survey asked participants for feedback on the proposed balanced calendar, which would shift the school district to classes year-round.

The survey also polled the community on later start times, as the district is looking into later school day start times for high school students.

Pung said the first thing discussed was the proposed balanced calendar.

"We’re going to look at getting data and will probably have a more specific report at our next committee meeting," he said.

The Committee of the Whole Meeting will be held 6:30 p.m. April 7 in the Kinney Conference Room at 720 N. Kinney Avenue.
