Baseball scores early to beat Notre Dame 4-3 in night game

Central Michigan jumped on Notre Dame’s pitching staff in night game held in Kalamazoo on Wednesday night.

The Chippewas scored one run each in the first and second innings and broke a 3-3 tie in the eighth inning to win 4-3, improving to 26-15 overall.

Cody Leichman doubled in the first inning to score Alex Borglin to put CMU up 1-0.

In the second inning, Nick Regnier, had a RBI sacrifice to center field to score Pat MacKenzie.

With the bases loaded, and the score tied 3-3 in the top of the eighth inning, MacKenzie flew out to foul territory in left field, scoring Adam Collins for the go ahead run.

Matt Trowbridge started the game on the mound for the Chippewas pitching two innings before being relieved by Adam Aldred who pitched just over five innings.

Tim Black came on in the eighth inning with two outs to pitch the rest of the way closing out the game for the Chippewas.
