Meditation a focus during PR Central's Health and Wellness Fair

Michelle Wasenko didn't realize how the simple act of meditation could offer her a path toward better health.

The Hartland senior, along with other Central Michigan University students, faculty and staff, found new ways to better their physical and mental well-being during PR Central's Health and Wellness Fair.

"Meditation definitely relaxes your body and mind," Wasenko said. "I feel better emotionally and physically. (Meditation) has helped with the big things and the little things."

The fair, held Thursday in the Bovee University Center, included presentations and booths set up by various student groups and community health organizations, including Wasenko's "Just Be," LCC, a meditation and self-development studio in downtown Mount Pleasant.

Tammie Windischhofer, owner of Just Be and a self-development coach at the studio, said services offered at the school and her own studio are an easy way for students to get rid of the stress, especially during finals week.

Aside from local health shops, the CMU Student Environmental Health Association offered information on radon, environmentally-friendly products and information on microplastic beads that could cause harm to the environment.

"There are a ton of ways to create more awareness of the products we use every day and how they impact the environment," said Kylie McElrath, a Traverse City sophomore and member of the RSO.

PR Central's Annamica Delabbio, a Fenton senior, said the event has been a tradition of sorts, which brought more than 60 people to the fair by noon.
