Chippewas such as football players Titus Davis, linebacker Justin Cherocci and gymnasts Kirsten and Brittany Petzold chatted with athletes while signing photographs and posters.

"A lot of what being a college athlete is about is giving back," Davis said. "Today is a very humbling experience for us (CMU athletes). We have a lot in common with these (athletes). They love sports and competition and we love sports and competition. It's really cool to get to meet them and get on that level with them."

Brittany Petzold described the atmosphere in the Rose Arena as a "happy" one.

"Just the excitement on these people's faces. That's what is so rewarding about this," she said.

Erin Jenkinson, one of many Miss Michigan winners who signed autographs alongside CMU's athletes, called the experience "exciting."

"I was here last year for this and CMU is such a great host for this wonderful event," Jenkinson said. "I love doing this kind of thing. You can really tell that these (SOMI athletes) look forward to this. The pure joy is what really makes it for me."
