CMU baseball's Trowbridge in talks with Baltimore Orioles
Nearly a week and a half after being selected in the 2014 Major League Baseball entry draft, Central Michigan University junior and left-handed pitcher Matt Trowbridge still has not decided if he wants to play big league ball or return to CMU for his senior season.
Trowbridge told Central Michigan Life that talks between he and the Baltimore Orioles – the club that took Trowbridge in the 13th round with the 391st pick – are "heating up," and a decision could be made as soon as the end of the week.
Trowbridge was the second CMU pitcher to be selected in the 2014 draft. Another junior, Jordan Foley, opted to forego his senior year to sign with the New York Yankees last week.
If he decides to sign, Trowbridge would be the third CMU baseball player to reach an agreement with a major league team. Senior Pat Kaminska was picked up by the Texas Ranges after going undrafted in this year.
Trowbridge appeared in 16 games in the 2014 season, posting a 2.59 earned run average. In 31 and a third innings, Trowbridge struck out 43 batters and allowed 17 hits.
