Gas leak at Broadway and Henry stopped, residents can return home

A gas leak at the corner of Broadway and Henry streets has been stopped. DTE crews are working on repairing the broken main.

" The area is now safe and residents who evacuated the area can return to their homes," said Officer Jeff Browne, Mount Pleasant police's public information officer. "It's no longer a risk to the public."

Mount Pleasant police and fire departments responded to the broken gas main around 9 a.m. An excavator hit the main while doing road repairs. Six residences were evacuated.

The Mount Pleasant Department of Public Works also assisted.

Browne said he does not know when the repairs on the broken main will be finished. However, the area is now safe for residents in the area.
