This week in CMU history: Famous comedy troupe performs in Warriner Auditorium

On Feb. 11, 1991, Central Michigan Life reported on a performance by Second City at Central Michigan University. The famous comedy troupe from Chicago performed for a packed Warriner Auditorium, performing a wide variety of prepared sketches, improvised material and audience participation.

Second City, a long-standing comedy troupe based in Chicago, boasts famous alumni like John Belushi, Chevy Chase and Dan Aykroyd.

One memorable sketch from the show involved audience participation. Performers devised skits, monologues and one-liners based on the suggestion of a single object by an audience member.

The closing sketch involved Jefferson Airplane’s classic song “White Rabbit.” Troupe members converted the song into a psychedelic tribute to the Brady Bunch with the line from the song “Go ask Alice.”

The four-man-and-one-woman ensemble made a great impression on the audience, the article said, offering a fun time at a crucial mid-semester point.
