Junior Da’Jourie Turner scored a career-high 21 points to lead the Central Michigan University women’s basketball team past Bowling Green State University 57-54 on Wednesday night.

“I don’t know what came over me,” Turner said. “I was just focused and relaxed coming into this game. I can’t really explain what happened. I just played.”

Turner came into Wednesday’s contest scoring an average of six points per game. The increase in production came as a relief to the 5-foot-six point guard.

“It’s about time,” Turner said. “I’ve needed to step up and be a bigger threat this year. It has been a challenge for me, but I’m glad my game is developing to where Coach  (Sue) Guevara wants it to be.”

CMU relied on a strong post presence to defeat BGSU. The Chippewas outscored the Flacons 40-19 in the paint and won the rebounding margin 43-29.

“The plan was to go inside out,” Head Coach Sue Guevara said. “We know we are bigger. We were able to create 19 second-chance points. That is a huge difference for us.”

Senior Crystal Bradford recorder her eighth double-double of the season. The Detroit-native scored 10 points and grabbed 11 rebound in 32 minutes of play.

With the victory, the Chippewas improve to 6-3 in Mid-American Conference play. Following Wednesday's victory, the CMU women sit one game behind Western Michigan University in the MAC West standings.

CMU’s win also marks the first time the Chippewas have won at BGSU since the 1995 season.

“Coming down here has really been a thorn in our side,” Guevara said. “It’s a good feeling. Our seniors get to leave knowing they were able to win here on the road. Now that the monkey is off our back, we can get something going.”
