The Central Michigan University Athletics Department announced Friday women's basketball Head Coach Sue Guevara has signed a new five-year deal with the school.

Guevara's new contract, which runs through the 2019-20 season, will pay her $234,000 annually. She will receive a base salary of $204,000 per year and cash in on another $30,000 for television, radio and other promotional appearances.

Entering her eighth year as CMU's coach, Guevara's old contract had a base salary of $194,500 per year following an extension in October 2013.

"I am pleased to again illustrate our strong commitment to Sue Guevara and our women's basketball program," Athletics Director Dave Heeke said in a statement. "Coach Guevara consistently displays outstanding energy and passion for Central Michigan University, its student-athletes and the entire campus community."

Guevara's career record as CMU's head coach is 130-123. In 2013, Guevara led the Chippewas to their first Mid-American Conference Tournament title and appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 1984.

“I’m grateful and appreciative," Guevara said. "The support from the administration is so beneficial."

Last season, CMU finished 13-18 and lost in the MAC Tournament's second round. Guevara said her new deal brings to mind how fortunate she is to be coaching at CMU.

"It’s nice to know that your administration believes in you," she said. "I’m probably one of the most blessed coaches in all of America.”
