Deaf rapper Sean Forbes performed on March 23rd in Plachta Auditorium.

Students and Mount Pleasant residents flooded into Plachta Auditorium tonight for Sean Forbes, a deaf musical artist.

Forbes performed on behalf of the American Sign Language Society, who hosted the event. Nearly 400 people were in attendance.

Forbes kept the audience engaged throughout the show with witty jokes and dancing. He performed several of his original songs including "Watch These Hands, Def Deaf Girls," and "No Ordinary Hero," which was featured on the soundtrack of the movie "No Ordinary Hero."

During his performance, Forbes made sure to provide some educational context to the audience, as well as entertainment. The musician became deaf from spinal meningitis when he was a few months old, so sign language was the primary way he communicated.

"I learned four new signs," said Malena Dell, a freshman at Bethal College, who traveled for the event. "I learned (how to sign) speakers, blown, facts and tone deaf."

Along with students, Forbes' parents were in attendance. Throughout his life, his parents were major influences in Forbes becoming an entertainer.

"My husband and I are both musicians," said his mother, who attended Central Michigan University. "Our children were raised around music, a lot of Motown musicians. My husband even has a band named The Forbes Brothers."

Forbes is currently on tour performing and giving motivational speeches. He has two albums, "Perfect Imperfection" and "I'm Deaf."
