A hot dark room is not where one would expect something to live, but it’s where Trap Door Improv thrives. From figuring out how a murderer commited his crime to following Sasquatch through a forest, Trap Door had something for everyone.

Allie Jackson, a junior from Sterling Heights, became a part of Trap Door Improv her freshman year and has fallen in love with preforming ever since.

“The one reason that I love improv is that anyone can like it,” Jackson said. “You don’t have to just like theater, anyone can be into it: business majors, people who are in athletics; anyone can like it.”

It is the energy that keeps Fort Wayne, Illinois freshman Alexis Rudd coming back for more.

“This is the second time I’ve seen (Trap Door Improv) preform and I thought it was better than last time,” Rudd said. “The (acting) group this time around had a lot more (chemistry).”

Along with former alums of Trap Door, University President George Ross was also in attendance.

Seeing the show for the first time Thursday night, Ross was pulled from the audience in order to participate in a skit in which he had to provide the sound effects for a skit in progress.

“When students have an opportunity to display their talent, it’s great for them and CMU to experience (the talent),” Ross said. “I think it’s good when you get a chance to practice your craft. (Trap Door Improv) did that tonight, and they did it well.”

Students interested in becoming a part of Trap Door Improv are encouraged to visit their Facebook page, CMU’s Trap Door Improv, and keep an eye out for auditions. Game and improv based workshops, along with preforming skits with current members of the troupe at callbacks, will allow for students to gain a feel of what it would be like to be an actual improv performer.

Trap Door Improv will be hosting their final performance of the season May 2.
