Hopewell Ranch to host 'Yesterday's Prom'

Yesterday's Prom will take place at 7 p.m. Friday April 10 at Mount Pleasant Community Church.

The prom is a women and girls only event and features a formal dance with a princess theme. It is being held to raise awareness for disabled girls with Hopewell Ranch, a non-profit organization that provides therapeutic horsemanship to children who are mentally, emotionally or physically disabled. Dressing up is encouraged but not required.

"The prom will help us raise funds to allow us to take care of our animals, which in turn helps us help the children and community," said founder of Hopewell ranch Jodi Stuber. "Women love it and it's a great opportunity to get together in a family friendly environment where everyone is welcome."

The student organization, Students Help Hopewell Ranch or SHHW, brings together students who have a love for horses and community service. The members learn about horse therapy and its benefits. This club also focuses on helping families of disabled people in any way possible.

“Yesterdays prom is a night where girls can feel no pressure to be their inner princess,” said Southfield sophomore and Vice President of SHHW Crystal Thompson. "The prom will have games for the kids, dancing and a raffle for gift baskets."

During the summer, Hopewell Ranch averages 50 children in their free program, each getting an hour of riding instruction. The ranch works with the entire family, offering support to parents, siblings, guardians and clients.
