Members and alumni of Pi Kappa Phi sing to their sweetheart after the 2015 homecoming day parade on Main Street on Oct. 3, 2015.

Since 1970, Cyndi Homeyer has only missed two Central Michigan University homecoming games.

The CMU alumna, in addition to many others, returned to campus this weekend to celebrate homecoming. Alumni had the opportunity to attend a free Alumni Village tailgate event.

Homeyer said her favorite CMU memory is attending the homecoming games as a student, and she loves coming back to campus each year.

“I like the energy, seeing all of the young people and knowing what’s ahead of them, hoping they have a wonderful life,” she said.

Cali Clark, alumna and Director of Employment Services for Human Resources at CMU, helped serve food at the event. This is the first year Human Resources participated in Alumni Village.

She graduated in 1988 and said fall is the best time on campus.

“(What I like about homecoming) is just the people that come back and the sense of community,” Clark said. “(People) are proud to be alums.”

Julie Chippeway, who graduated in 2007, said she loves how everyone “gets so fired up” about homecoming. Her favorite memory from attending CMU is her first homecoming game. She said she loves being at the game when they fire the cannon.

Chippeway still lives in Mount Pleasant and comes back to campus often.

“We come to the games every chance we get,” she said. “We’re here all the time.”
