After the all the summer workouts, the preseason practices and hours in the film room, the Central Michigan men's and women's basketball teams are ready to begin their season. Pick up a copy of Central Michigan Life or check out the stories from our basketball edition, below.

Men's basketball is ignoring the preseason buzz as it heads into Friday's opener as the Mid-American Conference preseason favorites.

The Chippewas play their first game of the regular season at 4:30 p.m. Friday at McGuirk Arena against Jacksonville State.

The women's basketball team is poised to progress with its 10 underclassmen this season. They open up their season at 7:30 p.m. Friday at McGuirk Arena against Indiana State.

Senior point guard Chris Fowler has started all 94 games since he walked onto campus in 2012.

While he's already racked up individual records, including the most steals in program history, Fowler reflects on his final shot to earn a Mid-American Conference Tournament Championship and a bid to the NCAA Tournament in March.

The women's basketball team lost a strong group of seniors this offseason, including current WNBA player Crystal Bradford. But this year, it's senior point guard Da'Jourie Turner's turn to lead the Chippewas.

Jewel Cotton and Tinara Moore are expected to have a strong post presence this year on the young Chippewa women's squad.

All five members of the men's basketball team returning this season, as the Chippewa family cites its chemistry as a strength this season.
