Alcohol suspected in death at Deerfield Village

Police are still in the process of investigating the death of Farmington Hills senior Jonathon Justice, 23, that occurred late last Saturday night in Deerfield Village Apartments.

Justice was found unresponsive by his roommates, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Alcohol is suspected to have been a factor in Justice's death.


Lawsuit filed against former St. Mary's priest

Former St. Mary's University Parish Priest Denis Heames asked a Central Michigan University student to keep his sexual relationship with her a secret, according to a lawsuit filed in Isabella County's 21st Circuit Court.

Senior Megan Winans said Heames used their counseling relationship to manipulate her into a sexual one. She is suing for economic losses equivalent to $25,000 for each count and any other costs she may be entitled to.

No court date is set yet.


Salaries for high-level executives increases in last decade

Central Michigan Life investigated the increasingly high salaries for all of CMU's employees.

In 10 years, the amount CMU spends on compensation for all its employees has increased by $97.5 million — from $186.6 million to $284.1 million. The university now spends 52 percent more than it did in 2005 on salaries and benefits.


CMU Athletics releases images of new turf design for Kelly/Shorts Stadium

design for the turf at Kelly/Shorts Stadium, with alternating shades of dark and light green turf and "Fire Up Chips!" logos, was released. $600,000 was set aside for the new turf in the deferred maintenance budget.


The devoted life: Student contemplates leaving CMU to become a nun

Sophomore Audrey Pottratz is interviewing for the position of a sister for the Dominican Order, which is similar to a nun.


Former CMU kicker/punter Coluzzi to walk on at Iowa

Former place kicker turned punter, Ron Coluzzi, left CMU's program. He intends to walk on to the University of Iowa's program in the fall.
