CMU and WMU to compete in blood battle

The goal this year is to get 300 CMU donors. On the first blood drive, 42 pints were collected, Kulman said. All who attempt to donate will receive a free blood battle T-shirt and a chance to win other prizes. The drive is hosted by the CMU Red Cross Club.

Upcoming Blood Bash donations are scheduled from noon to 5:45 p.m. on March 24 in the Merrill Hall lobby, from noon until 6 p.m. on March 30 in Sweeney Hall lobby and from noon until 6 p.m. April 6 in Finch Fieldhouse.

Students can make an appointment to reserve a time to donate by calling 1-(800)-733-2767 or visiting redcrossblood.org with the sponsor code "CMU." Walk-ins are also welcome.

"From the blood that is donated in the competition, we serve local needs first," Kulman said. "About 20 percent of blood donations American Red Cross come from college students."

Every two seconds, someone somewhere in the U.S. needs a blood transfusion, Kulman said.

"You never know who's life you might help save," he said. "The need is constant."

More information about donating or how to volunteer at the drives can be found on Central Michigan Red Cross Club’s Facebook page.
