Winter storm warning in effect for western Lower Michigan


Several Michigan cities have been issued a winter storm warning from 12 p.m. Wednesday through 8 p.m. Thursday.

Mount Pleasant, Ludington, Pentwater, Big Rapids, Clare, Alma, Muskegon, Grand Rapids, Ionia, Holland, Hastings and Lansing have a strong chance of seeing six or more inches of snowfall according to a weather report issued by the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids.

There is a 90 percent chance of snowfall on Wednesday in Mount Pleasant, and an 80 percent chance of snowfall on Thursday. 

The story is expected to hit the western lower part of Michigan the hardest. Hazardous winter weather is possible, but not imminent, according to the report.

Other cities are likely to be added to the list before Wednesday, as storm position can vary in the next 24 to 36 hours.

The storm is predicted to be long with heavy precipitation. The exact amount of projected snow, sleet and freezing rain accumulation are still unknown.
