Mount Pleasant father arrested for child abuse

Police arrested a man for child abuse after his two year-old toddler was found with bruises Sunday night.

Police were dispatched to the 1300 block of Lyons Street at 11:47 p.m. after receiving a report of a child having a possible seizure. The child was transported to the hospital due to difficulties breathing.

After receiving care, multiple bruises were discovered all over the child's body in multiple stages of healing. Fresh bruises were found on the skull, arms, legs and feet of the toddler. Doctors said it was possible the child suffered from shaken baby syndrome. The child was sent to another hospital specializing in treating children.

Donald Bebee II, the 30 year-old father, was questioned and taken into custody by Mount Pleasant police.

Bebee is facing charges of first degree child abuse, carrying a maximum sentence of life in prison, and second degree child abuse, with a sentence of up to 10 years.

Bebee is being held at Isabella County Jail. Bond was set at 10 percent of $600,000.

Mount Pleasant Public Information Officer Jeff Browne said the investigation is ongoing.

The Department of Human Services assisted the Mount Pleasant Police Department at the scene of the incident.
