A Central Michigan University freshman was hospitalized Friday after losing control of a Ford F150, striking down high-tension power lines which sheared the top off an oncoming Penske Box truck.

In a release, the Isabella County Sheriff's Department said they were dispatched at 9:17 p.m., Friday to assist a 19-year old Royal Oak native, who "failed to negotiate the curve and lost control," on the southbound US-127 entrance ramp near Isabella Road in Mount Pleasant. Speed appeared to be a factor, according to the release.

Fire rescue was needed to extricate the student from the vehicle, who was then transported to McLaren Hospital with numerous severe injuries, the release stated.

The driver of the Penske Box truck, headed north on the US-127 business loop, did not see the downed lines and struck them. The upper portion of the vehicle was sheared off, but the driver was not injured.

The incident remains under investigation by the Isabella County Sheriff's Department.

The Central Michigan University Police Department, Mount Pleasant Fire Department, Mobile Medical Response and Michigan Department of Transportation assisted on the scene.
