Commencement ceremonies to begin Friday, three on Saturday


With the 2015-16 school year coming to its close, 3,492 students are set to graduate from Central Michigan University on Friday and Saturday.

The Doctoral Ceremony, the first of four commencement ceremonies, begins at 4 p.m. Friday in Warriner Hall's Plachta Auditorium. The ceremony includes Doctorates of Audiology, Education, Health Administration, Philosophy and Physical Therapy.

Twenty-five year CMU faculty member David Matty will be the keynote speaker. Matty is now the dean of the College of Science at Weber State University. Matty will receive an honorary Doctor of Science degree.

The other three ceremonies will take place are Saturday at McGuirk Arena.

Speaker Belle Wheelan is slated to address the graduates at the 9 a.m. ceremony, receiving a Doctor of Public Service honorary degree. Class of '84 alumnus Eduardo Fernandez, who is also receiving a Doctor of Public Service honorary degree, will speak at the 1:30 p.m. ceremony. Class of '76 alumnus Gary Dunbar will speak at 6 p.m. ceremony.
