A national search is being conducted to find a successor for Steve Lawrence, associate vice president of Facilities Management. Lawrence announced his plans to retire Sept. 30.

Central Michigan University Chief of Police Bill Yeagley is leading a seven-member search committee.

Lawrence started at CMU in 2003 as director of plant engineering and planning. He worked as a contractor for two years, and as a full time employee for 13 years.

The associate vice president of Facilities Management is responsible for administration, operation and direction of campus planning, building operations and maintenance, custodial services, energy management, utility systems, landscape maintenance, major repairs and construction, according to the job posting. This includes overseeing a budget of about $29 million and managing more than 200 employees.

Other members of the search committee appointed by Barrie Wilkes, vice president of Finance and Administrative Services, include Ray Christie, senior vice provost of academic administration, Linda Slater, director of plant engineering and planning, Grant Skomski, assistant director of Residence Life, Mary Hill, associate vice president and controller, financial services and reporting, Dan Vetter, College of Business Administration senior associate dean, Bob Frost, chair of the recreation, parks and leisure services department, and Alli Baxter, human resources consultant.

Two candidates for the position visited campus last week.

Jonathan Webb, consolidated facility operations and maintenance site manager at the Boeing Service Company, had an open forum interview on Aug. 22.

Doug Pearson, executive director of facilities planning and management at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, had his open forum on Aug. 25.

The committee hopes to have the position filled by October
