Central Michigan University students have the opportunity to help the Flint community through the Salvation Army and the Punching Out Blight organization from 8 a.m to 8 p.m. on Sept. 24.

Volunteers will hand out water and interact with community members during Salvation Army’s "Touch-a-Truck" event. The event will take place at the University of Michigan-Flint's William S. White Building. Touch-a-Truck features bounce houses, face paintings, hot dogs, helicopters and trucks.

Students working with Punching Out Blight will help renovate several areas around the city. Transportation and food will be provided. Volunteers are required to bring a reusable water bottle, wear closed toe shoes and CMU apparel.

An additional 20 CMU students are needed to lead a group of about 15 student volunteers in group discussions and on-site programs. To apply, students can visit the Mary Ellen Brandell Volunteer Center orgsync.
