DII hockey swept by Aurora, home losing streak at six games

Home-ice advantage is one of the biggest motivations in sports, but it didn't help Central Michigan’s Division II club hockey team this weekend.

The team was swept by Aurora University, losing Friday’s game 8-1. CMU's only goal  of the weekend came from senior Austin Cole.

Aurora delivered CMU a 10-0 thumping on Saturday.

Head coach Brian Knopp said his team is inexperienced and faced a good Aurora team.

“It was a hard weekend,” Knopp said. “They’re such a good team — one of the top teams in the nation. Our team is so young. We’re a work in progress. From playing a team like (Aurora) we learn a lot.”

The loss marks the sixth straight home defeat for the DII program, but heads are still high in the locker room.

“We are getting better every game,” Knopp said. “The players are having fun. We’re a DII team. We have some good players that are proud to be CMU players.”

The team is back in action during Thanksgiving break on Friday and Saturday night against IUPUI.

Friday’s game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Saturday's is set for 1 p.m. Both games will be held at Isabella County Events Center.
