Women's basketball draws Wright State in round one of WNIT


The Central Michigan women's basketball team's resume earned them a spot in this year's Women's National Invitational Tournament.

The Chippewas will take take on Wright State (24-8, 15-3 Horizon League) on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Nutter Center in Fairborn, Ohio.

CMU finished the season 23-8 and 15-3 Mid-American Conference and were winners of the MAC regular season title.

The Chippewas fell to Western Michigan, 67-63, in the quarterfinals of the MAC Tournament. 

The Raiders lost to Detroit Mercy in the semifinals of their conference tournament. 

WSU also lost to Illinois and Toledo, two teams the Chippewas beat this season.

CMU has never won a postseason game outside of the MAC Tournament, posting an 0-7 record. 

CMU lost to Indiana University - Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), 63-55 in the first round of last season’s WNIT.

The 20th year of the WNIT will begin first-round action on Wednesday and will conclude on Friday.

Second-round games will go March 18-21. Round three goes March 22-24, quarterfinals are March 25-27, and the semifinals will be played March 29-30. The start times have not yet been announced.

There are four other MAC teams in the WNIT outside of CMU: Kent State (19-12), Northern Illinois (22-11), Ohio (22-9), and Ball State (21-10).
