On a wet and windy evening in Mt. Pleasant, the Central Michigan lacrosse team fell to the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers by a score of 15-9.

The two teams opened the game by playing a very tightly contested first half. The Chippewas and Chanticleers exchanged six goals apiece keeping either team from grabbing momentum before the half’s final minute.

CMU's Jocelyn Lemay scored a first half hat-trick. Shannon Doyle added two goals and Emma Hamilton scored one.

With under a minute left in the first half, Coastal Carolina (5-4, 2-0 Atlantic Sun) started to separate themselves from Central Michigan (4-6, 1-2 ASUN).

Hannah Krin and Haley Kyger scored two huge goals to put the Chanticleers up 8-6 to give them momentum heading into the break. Coastal Carolina road that wave of energy the rest of the way to leave Mt. Pleasant with a win.

"That’s tough, just kind of takes the wind out of your sails,” said Head Coach Sara Tisdale. “That’s good for our program to learn in how much we need to ride those swings of momentum in the right direction.”

Coastal Carolina controlled the second half. The Chanticleers outscored the Chippewas 7-3 after halftime. Hamilton scored two to give her a hat-trick while Lemay scored again to give her 4 goals on the day.

Falling to 1-2 and a tie for 7th place in the ASUN, Central Michigan is at risk of dropping out of the top eight in the conference for a playoff position.

Tisdale isn’t concerned about her team’s position and said she would like CMU to stay on the course and continue to compete for an ASUN Championship spot.

“There’s still a long route,” Tisdale said. “We have winnable games going forward and I’m very happy with where we are at.”

The Chippewas will host the Furman Paladins on at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday at the Lacrosse/Soccer Complex.
