Dog Central serves lunch to IRide employees during their lunch on Aug. 30 ar IRide's building parking lot.

The Dog Central food truck visited the Isabella County Transportation Commission (ICTC) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 30 to finish off ICTC’s Food Truck Fun series.

Food trucks appeared periodically at the iRide Building on 2100 Transportation Drive. Each is directed to give employees and community members a variety of food options, said Outreach Coordinator Kaylie Monroe.

“It’s for the community, specifically the west side,” Monroe said, adding she had personally delivered flyers on the series to businesses on High, Lincoln and Pickard streets.

The series came to mind in response to the lack of restaurants and fast food locations in the west area of Mount Pleasant, Monroe said.

“We got about a hundred employees and not a lot of food options,” she said, explaining that the site’s location is remote enough to make 25-minute lunch breaks challenging to fulfill.  “It was an opportunity to get our employees something else (and) to bring families out here.”

Other trucks that were spotlighted included during the series include Cruisin’ Chef and Los Jalapenos.

“I notice with (Dog Central’s food truck) we’ve gotten more public interaction then with the other food trucks we’ve had come in,” said iRide Lead Dispatcher Melissa Chritz.

Chritz said the food truck series had given her and her coworkers an opportunity to eat out considering their work load.

“I don’t typically eat out so this is an opportunity for me to do that before I’m in the building for the rest of the day,” she said.

Monroe said more events like the Food Truck Fun series are being prepared for the near future.

“Our employees are happy, our hallways smell fantastic and it was great that they sent us a menu that was tailored to us and had our logo on it,” Monroe said.
