A Central Michigan University student who threatened his roommates Sunday night allegedly assaulted one of them and advanced on a second victim, according to a press release issued Monday morning from the CMU Police Department.

A caller contacted the CMUPD shortly before midnight Sept. 18 and said he was assaulted by a roommate, who has been identified as an 18-year-old man, according to the release. Officers arrived to the seventh floor of Wheeler Hall and determined the man advanced on a second victim with an open-pocket knife and fled the scene.

The release stated there were no injuries sustained that required medical attention.

Police used video surveillance and information from eyewitnesses to track the man, according to the release. He was spotted in an area south of CMU’s campus near the southbound expressway.

He was taken into custody at about 2:10 a.m. without incident. He was lodged in the Isabella County Jail on two counts of domestic assault (as roommates were the victims) and a count of aggravated assault with a weapon.

The man’s name has not yet been released.

The Mount Pleasant Police Department, the Isabella County Sheriff’s Office and the Isabella County Central Dispatch assisted the CMUPD.

No other information is available at this time.

CMU issued two important notices early Monday morning. The first notice happened after 12:30 a.m. Monday and stated a CMU student threatened his roommates with a three-to-four inch knife at 11:42 p.m. Sunday and was on the loose.

The student was described in the first notice as a white male, 5-foot-8 and approximately 175 pounds, according to the initial notice. He has short light-brown hair and was wearing a long sleeve tie dye blue and orange shirt and light cargo shorts.

The second notice, issued around 2:20 a.m., stated he had been located and was in police custody.
