University Theatre will continue its 2017-18 season with The Other Project, with showings of the piece taking place at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 5-7 and Oct. 12-14, with 2 p.m. shows Oct. 8 and 15 in the Theatre-on-the-Side in Moore Hall.

The play is the creation of associate professor Annette Thornton, the seven performing actresses, the assistant director and the stage manager. The Other Project is the first devised theatrical piece at Central Michigan University, meaning the script for the play was created entirely through collaboration and improvisation by the entire cast rather than a single writer. Thornton said The Other Project was written, choreographed, rehearsed and staged within five weeks.

The idea of the production is focused on "The Other," a group or person that is seen as strange or different, Thornton said. The idea will be expressed through music, text and motion.

“The Other Project is an inclusive journey not meant to present a solution, but to uncover the existence of The Other as it appears in our lives and to invite the audience to continue the conversation,” Thornton said.

Tickets can be bought on U.T.’s webpage or at the CMU Events Center.
