Former Central Michigan football head coach Butch Jones was fired from the same position at the University of Tennessee on Sunday.

Tennessee lost 55-17 to Missouri on Nov. 11, ultimately leading to Jones' termination. The Volunteers are 4-6 on the season and 0-6 in the Southeastern Conference.

During his time with CMU, Jones led the Chippewas to a 27-13 record and a 20-3 record in the Mid-American Conference across three seasons. On Nov. 6, 2007, Jones coached the Chippewas to their first win over rival Western Michigan at Waldo Stadium since 1993.

Jones was the ninth coach in MAC history to win the league title in his first season. On Dec. 16, 2009, he left CMU to take over at Cincinnati.

After a three-year stint with the Bearcats, Jones accepted the head coaching job at Tennessee, replacing Derek Dooley, to become the 23rd head coach in school history.

Tennessee defensive line coach Brady Hoke, a former head coach at Michigan, was named the interim coach for the remainder of the season.
