Wrestling climbs to No. 17 after idle weekend

Central Michigan wrestling jumped to No. 17 in USA Today’s rankings released Tuesday despite not participating in competition over the weekend. 

Sophomore Mason Smith jumped to No. 9 at the 141 pound weight class. Junior Justin Oliver remains at No. 3 at the 149 pound weight class. 

Despite being out of action since early December, senior Colin Heffernan jumped two spots to No. 14 at the 157 pound weight class.

Senior CJ Brucki remains at No. 15 at the 174 pound weight class, while senior Jordan Ellingwood moves up one spot to No. 13 at the 184 pound weight class. Redshirt Freshman Matt Stencel remains No. 20 at the heavyweight class.

The Chippewas jumped three spots to No. 16 in tournaments while dropping one spot to No. 25 in dual meet action according to InterMat, a website ranking collegiate and high school wrestlers.

CMU wrestling host No. 3 Missouri at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 19 in McGuirk Arena.
