Communication students from across the state will be presenting their research at the Michigan Undergraduate and Graduate (MUG) Communication Conference on Feb. 23.

Registration starts at noon in Moore Hall room 105. Four panels, each with multiple speakers, will take place in Moore Hall 105 from 1-5 p.m. There will be time for questions after each session.

Presentations will include topics such as emotionally intimate mixed-gender sibling relationships, historic political communication and forgiveness in cases of sexual abuse. One CMU student will be present “Integrative Public Relations major with a communication and leadership minor.”

Presenting students will be traveling from Eastern Michigan University, Saginaw Valley State University, Wayne State University, and even Monmouth College in Illinois. Several of the presenters are CMU students.

The conference will be an opportunity for undecided majors to explore the field of communication, said Organizer and Communication Professor Joe Packer.

It will also be an opportunity for undergraduates from other colleges to be introduced to CMU and possibly consider it for graduate school, Packer said.

“It’s really exciting to see what people are working on,” he said. “(Seeing other students present) can be really important for inspiring folks to go do research of their own.

“You get to see a whole smattering of (diverse research). There’s something for everyone.”
