Junior forward Reyna Frost looks for a pass during the basketball game against Miami Ohio on March 9 at Quicken Loans Arena.

Redshirt freshman guard Micaela Kelly drove the lane and dropped a short-corner pass to junior forward Reyna Frost, who swished the mid-range jumper to give Central Michigan a 59-58 lead with 1:04 remaining in the Mid-American Conference Tournament semifinals.

That basket ended up being the game-winning score.

CMU head coach Sue Guevara could only think of one way to describe Frost – a warrior.

“Reyna Frost has been a warrior, just a warrior the last two games,” Guevara said. “If you look at the shots that she hits, the rebounds she gets, the offensive rebounds that the kid gets for us. Defensively, she has three blocks.”

In CMU’s 67-64 victory over Eastern Michigan in the quarterfinals, Frost posted 14 points, 14 rebounds and three assists. Of the 14 rebounds, six came in the fourth quarter. Frost secured an offensive rebound with under 30 seconds left to let CMU take even more time off the clock.

After surviving and advancing against EMU, Guevara’s team had to do it again in the MAC Tournament semifinals. Once again, the Chippewas snuck by Miami (Ohio), 61-58, to advance to the title game on March 10.

Frost posted 18 points, 12 rebounds, two assists, one steal and three blocks in the three-point victory against the RedHawks.

“I was in the zone playing for my team,” Frost said. “I don’t want to go home. I like to think I’m a defensive player, and I want to be the one to get the stop. I had some big plays for us down low and Cassie, she hit those free throws for us and sealed the game.”

The Chippewas will play against either Buffalo or Western Michigan at 11 a.m. March 10 in the MAC Tournament championship at Quicken Loans Arena.
