Two killed in campus shooting at Campbell Hall at CMU

Two people have been confirmed to be shot and killed at about 9 a.m. March 2 on the fourth floor of Campbell Hall. 

The deceased are not students. There are no additional injuries.

The suspect in the shooting is James Eric Davis, Jr. He is a black male, 19-years-old, 5’10” and 135 lbs. He was last reported to have ran north along the railroad tracks near Towers, and is believed by police to still be within Mount Pleasant city limits.

Police believe the situation started from a domestic situation. CMU police are working closely with local and state police.

Those planning to come to campus today to pick up students for spring break should stay off campus until further notice. Go to the Comfort Inn, 2424 S. Mission St. University staff will be on site to support the families.

Lt. Larry Klaus of the CMUPD said the suspect is considered "armed and dangerous."

Police confirmed they had contact with the suspect last night and was taken to a hospital for a "drug-related type incident." He was released this morning.

Officer Jeff Browne of the Mount Pleasant Police Department said police believe the suspect is within the city limits and is urging the community to call 911 if they see the suspect.
