Elizabeth Kirby will serve as interim dean of the College of Education and Human Services beginning July 1.

In a June 12 press release from the University Communications, Provost Michael Gealt announced Kirby's appointment. She replaces Dale-Elizabeth Pehrsson, who has been named president of Clarion University of Pennsylvania. Kirby served as acting dean in 2016 while Pehrsson served as a fellow with the American Council on Education.

Kirby is the senior associate dean of the college, and director of professional education. She joined CMU as a faculty member of the educational leadership department in 2004. Kirby then served as chair of the department before being named associate dean of EHS in 2012, and senior associate dean/director of professional development in 2014.

As a student, Kirby earned her doctoral degree in education and master’s degree in reading from CMU. She also holds a bachelor’s degree from Drake University.

Kirby is active in teacher education at the state level, including involvement with the Michigan Department of Education and the Michigan Association of Colleges for Teacher Education, of which she is the past president.
