While only four games of the 2019 Central Michigan football schedule have been released, the Chippewas have made their statement clear.

They want to play the best.

Following the season-opener against Albany at home, CMU plays Wisconsin at Camp Randall Stadium, Miami (FL) at Hard Rock Stadium and now, a new opponent has emerged.

The Chippewas host New Mexico State at Kelly/Shorts Stadium on Oct. 12 as part of a home-and-home series. CMU returns the favor by making a trip to New Mexico on Sept. 5, 2026 to complete the series.

“I said it last week, and I’ll say it again: We welcome the challenge to measure ourselves against the best,” CMU football coach John Bonamego said.

The deal between the Chippewas and Aggies replaces South Florida on the schedule.

The first three scheduled games are set for Week 1 against Albany (Aug. 31), Week 2 at Wisconsin (Sept. 7) and Week 4 at Miami (Sept. 21). CMU and New Mexico State battle for the first time in program history during Week 7.

New Mexico State, under coach Doug Martin, went 7-6 in the 2017 season. In the Nova Home Loans Arizona Bowl, the Aggies pulled off a 26-20 overtime victory against Utah State.

The Aggies are a member of the FBS Independent group, along with Army, BYU, Liberty, Notre Dame and UMass.
