Vashon Bailey is a two-sport athlete at Somerset Academy in Florida. On Aug. 4, he committed to play football at Central Michigan.

During the spring, Central Michigan offensive coordinator Chris Ostrowsky made a trip to Somerset Academy in Pembroke Pines, Florida.

He met with 6-foot-7, 286-pound offensive tackle Vashon Bailey to start his recruitment to CMU on June 6. Just two months later, on Aug. 4, Bailey made his commitment to join the Chippewas.

"I couldn't leave class, so Coach Ostrowsky came into my classroom and spoke to me," Bailey said. "Usually, other coaches would leave to the next school. That's what caught my eye."

The constant communication, as exemplified by Ostrowsky, showed Bailey the CMU coaching staff had his best interest at heart. He now talks with head coach John Bonamego at least twice per week. The rising 2019 prospect listed the fourth-year coach as the main reason for his commitment.

"He loves to win, I love to win," Bailey added. "It's a perfect match."

Bailey turned down offers from Southern Miss and Mississippi Valley State to pick CMU. He is the 17th pledge in the Chippewas' 2019 class but never reached out to the commits. He wanted to make the best decision for himself, without any influence from others.

Ostrowsky is the primary recruiter for Bailey. Referring to the offensive coordinator as "my guy," Bailey said he loves learning about life from him.

With Somerset Academy, Bailey plays defensive end and offensive tackle. Bonamego sees the prospect strictly as an offensive tackle at the college level. He made 25 tackles, three sacks and one fumble recovery on the defensive line in 2017.

"I feel that I'll out-work anybody in front of me," Bailey said. "The person in front of me will not beat me. There's nothing special, no smoke and mirrors, I'll just out-work out."

Once Bailey gets to Mount Pleasant, he plans to study sport management or sports medicine. He is ready to dominate in the classroom and on the field at CMU.

"Football doesn't last forever," Bailey said. "I have to take advantage of what CMU is offering me academically."

After his 2018 season comes to a close, all Bailey's focus will be turned to the Chippewas.
